Hi, today I'm going to talk about my career in university, visual arts degree on Universidad de Chile.
Its an academic degree of arts, focused on the development of skills, think and planing the creation of potencial work of art, that means that as student you have the liberty to propose, experiment, do, or even not do in the direction to give a reflection, opinion, or a critic integrating aesthetic, space, colour, time, and context.
Sounds great as an abstract but on reality the student suffers a lot of little problems that over time they form a snowball.
In terms of the curriculum, at the first years the student of arts are introduced in general terms on matters like drawing, colour and theory of arts and history, and every year that you advance on the level, became more complex but with a very big problem, the evaluations.
The real, and big problem of the study of visual arts is the process of evaluation. ¿How you should evaluate an art work?, yes, it is complex.
About the time of the career I think it's ok, five years, the arts in general need time for a good result, the question is the efficiency of time on the career, we spend a lot of time on subjects that aren't related to art, like politics for example.
And in the last item we have the material conditions of the faculty, ok, are very bad, the question is, are we going to focus are efforts on the space or the contents that we learn on that build?.
In my opinion there are a lot of thing that need to change on the faculty of visual arts but, nothing will make a real change if we don't change how we see the problem of education in terms of contents and evaluations.
The hole Faculty of Arts must be change, and administration too.
